About the Role

The Self Loader Log Truck Driver loads/unloads and hauls wood products from job sites or wood yard to customers/wood yard in a safe and legal manner following Company, Local, State and DOT laws and guidelines.

$1000 SIGN ON BONUS

Essential Function / Duties

  • Operate log truck safely consistent with Company, local, state and federal DOT transportation and safety regulations.
  • Transport wood products to/from job sites, log yards, and customers during day, evening, or overnight hours.
  • Perform maintenance tasks according to regulations.
  • Maintain trip tickets and scale slips for loads hauled.
  • Utilize tablets and maintain ELD compliance.

  • Establish and maintain customer relationships and programs for kiln dried hardwood lumber both domestically and internationally.
  • Promote and market the Northern Hardwoods’ brand with direction of management.
  • Work with teams on achieving key metrics and plan objectives.
  • Work with logistics team on using synergies for outbound lumber.

About the Role 

Responsible for providing efficient, effective assistance in the stacking of lumber packs and dropping bins.

Essential Function / Duties

  • Sticker lumber during the stacking process.
  • Removes broken stickers.
  • Cuts ends off boards.
  • Staples tags to packs and sprays tag information on packs
  • Put bolsters on packs.
  • Removes lumber from chain and places on carts.
  • Checks lumber thickness, length, and grade, piling accordingly.
  • Sorts out defects improperly manufactured lumber and notifies grader of them.
  • Removes tags from packs and records tag information.
  • Cleans work area and keeps free of hazards.
  • Assist in banding of packs; bolster placement and change over.
  • May monitor sticker bin.
  • May use chop saw and rip saw for re-manufacturing.
  • Commitment to working as a team to ensure all tasks, duties and projects are completed.
  • Cuts lumber pack ends.
  • Removes straps and crossers from packs, puts crossers on packs.
  • Bands truck pack.
  • Operates forklift to load and unload wood bins and haul banding.
  • Removes snow in the winter.
  • Cuts bolsters and crossers to length.
  • Repairs bolsters and sticker racks
  • Follows standard operating procedures.
  • Drops Lumber bins in stacker.
  • May use computer skills to report production, maintenance, or help needed.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor.

About the Role 

This Team Lead role reports directly to the Maintenance & Site Facility Manager.  This role assists leadership with daily safety activities ensuring the facility is meeting safety performance goals and compliance standards. The Lead will be involved in operational safety functions across all three shifts. They will provide feedback to Supervisors and Managers regarding performance of safety programs and metrics within the facility.

 Essential Function / Duties

  1. Direct safety program(s) to promote safe operation of the plant.
  2. Create, revise, and update safety materials.
  3. Maintain all record keeping associated with safety program(s).
  4. Proactively communicate safety progress with plant leadership.
  5. Oversee the safety orientation program and safety training completion.
  6. Coach employees and give feedback as needed regarding safety conditions.
  7. Lead one or more safety teams.
  8. Update and maintain locational Job Safety Analysis’ (JSAs).
  9. Administer Stormwater Program.
  10. Perform supervisor backup or leadership of a department.
  11. Travel as required for additional training and/or best-practice sharing.
  12. Continue to keep current in skills through training, classes and on the job training.
  13. Arrange scheduling of training with supervision.
  14. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment.  Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk.  Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.
  15. Work with groups in initiating and implementation of programs consistent with Northern Hardwoods Goals.
  16. Responsibilities include Atlantic Mine, Newberry and Niles, MI facilities.
  17. Other duties may be assigned at a later time.
