Job Summary

The CNC Machinist is responsible for programming and producing production and prototype machined products.  Duties include:

  • Accept responsibility for your safety and the safety of others by using safety awareness tools to eliminate unsafe acts and correct unsafe conditions
  • Perform CNC programming and troubleshooting, and manufacture standard production and prototypes utilizing solid modeling and CAM software
  • Accountable for the documentation of process sheet instructions, prints, tool lists, and inspection procedures to verify sequence and conformance to requirements
  • Lead the culture of 5S by creating an orderly work area including machining equipment and tooling
  • Resolve machining problems and capture opportunities to achieve the current production schedule
  • Machine parts, fixtures, tooling with manual lathe, mill & grinding to support prototype and standard production
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering to optimize new product design concepts for manufacturability

Experience

  • 2 year Associates Degree in CNC or equivalent technical discipline preferred
  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience

  • Manage and grow existing customer relationships:

The Forest Lands and Stumpage Manager leads the forest management team with responsibility for profit/loss, forest land management activities, stumpage procurement, safety, and forestry operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

Management

  • Role model of a safe and productive working environment

  • Plan, organize, and direct operations to meet and improve upon, annual operating targets
  • Oversee Forest Management activities on company fee lands and applicable stumpage sales:

    2. Quality and consistency across operations

    4. Pre-harvest activities in alignment with due diligence, includes logging road construction activities

This position is responsible for leading a warehouse team from warehouse/re-load in Niles, Michigan, with assistance from Sales Manager, Sales Staff, Production Managers, and Logistics Staff.  Coordinating day to day warehouse tasks and promote a safe work environment.

FUNCTION/DUTIES

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with other employee’s daily duties and tasks
  • Responsible for opening and closing warehouse duties each shift
  • Move lumber around in a safe and effective manner
  • Before loading containers, inspect floors for any imperfections that may impact packs being loaded (raised flooring, bolts or screws sticking up, missing floor panels); is there are any imperfections that are visible, pictures are to be taken and supervisor and sales are to be contacted before loading
  • Unload trucks safely and ensure that the shipment order is all accounted for
  • Ensure number of packs and pack numbers that are loaded on the truck / container match the packing list
  • Ensure that there are no holes, slashes, gashes, or imperfections are in the tarps or Conestoga (tarps shall be weatherproof, and have no imperfections in them, and must cover the entire load)
  • Daily contact with Northern Hardwoods Support Staff.
  • Loads shall be ready at least one day in advance
  • Containers shall be ready, double banded with export banding (heat-treated blocks if need be) at least one day in advance, ready for pick up
  • Store tools at the end of the shift inside buildings (chainsaw, shovels, brooms, banders (& accessories)
  • Maintain an organized and safe shipping warehouse areas & shipping office
  • Pick up crossers, stray boards, broken boards, trash, stray sticks (broken sticks, broken boards, banding, stray garbage), sweep all areas
  • Ensure that packs are staged in the warehouse(s) neatly, safely, organized, and appropriately (dunnage under the packs line up accordingly to appropriate areas to ensure stack stability and flatness of lumber)
  • Perform weekly cleaning duties to maintain warehouse, forklift, outfeed appearance
  • There will be times to either come in early, stay late, or both to ensure the assigned duties are done or to help with organization, truck loading / unloading trucks, pre-work inspections, Pre-work set ups, staging loads
  • Other duties as assigned
